Multi-User Editor and Utilities

The latest release of XGArcApps brings even more productivity benefits to small workgroups. The XGArcApps toolbar provides:

  • multi-user editing (on an ArcView licence!)
  • useful selection tools, including showing/hiding unselected features
  • a simple gazetteer tool

What's new in v4.1...
- ArcGIS 9.3 compatible.
- new tools for selecting features by circle and polygon.
- support for attribute domains in the multi-user editor.
- original symbology retained in multi-user editing sessions.
- support for ESRI file geodatabases added.
- Improved speed of starting and stopping editing operations.
- Features are locked to other users while editing.  Information on who holds the lock is stored in the new XGLockedBy field.
- Mini Gazetteer: one gazetteer can search multiple feature classes within a geodatabase.
- Mini Gazetteer has new (optional) tool for moving to easting/northing or UK grid references.
- Extended metadata: new optional fields are automatically populated with the date/time/username of feature creation/edits.

Multi-UserEditor

Standard ArcView behaviour is that when one user starts to edit a layer, the geodatabase becomes locked to other users until the first user has finished. XGArcApps removes this restriction, and permits multi-user editing of personal/file geodatabase layers. The editing process is the same as normal in ArcMAP, except that the user must first select any existing features to edit. XGArcApps prevents two users editing the same feature at the same time. Additional metadata is kept about feature edits, including date and time of last edit and the network user name of the operator. Group layers and multiple layers in the same geodatabase can all be edited in this way. The multi-user editor uses a configuration file containing a list of data sources. Any MDB/GDB path listed in the configuration is treated as a multi-user data source. The configuration can be located on each workstation or shared on the server so that editing can be configured for a workgroup.

Show All / Show Selection

Enables the user to hide all unselected features in the map. The button toggles between this mode and showing the selected features highlighted (ArcMap default behaviour), and works on all selectable layers. Three different modes of operation are possible, for example when no features are selected in a layer, the utility can either show the layer or hide it completely. This removes the need to export and re-import selections for map production, and greatly improves the visualisation of queries.

Mini-Gazetteer

A lightweight gazetteer search tool, using a configuration file to predefine layers/fields to be searched, providing the user with a simple and fast navigation tool. Configuration can be local to each user, or configured centrally for workgroups.
