CAMS is a complete text data and map management system designed to simplify the task of maintaining National Trails, Cycle Routes and Rights of Way.
It handles detailed path inventories, condition survey data, promoted path management, path infrastructure, surface details, maintenance and enquiry management, contract management and legal events.
Designed to conform with the Public Rights of Way standard BS7666 it builds on 10 years of experience and over 80 CAMS clients, a CAMS User group and dedicated CAMS technical support team.

Features
- A route inventory lists all the routes in the database. These can be listed by a number of different criteria and details accessed at the click of a button.
- An infrastructure inventory form shows all infrastructure items on a particular route. These can be listed by area, type or by the route with which they are associated.
- Enquiries/Complaints/Maintenance form shows details of each task. These are also stored on an enquiry inventory form and can be filtered for ease of selection.
- Tasks may be associated with either a route or an item of infrastructure, thus the enquiry/maintenance history of, for example, a particular ROW or item of furniture is instantly available.
- Promoted path management form keeps track of currently promoted routes including the component path links.
- A legal events form keeps track of diversions, modifications, extinguishments etc., prompting the user when action is required.
- A contacts database maintains a list of complainants, consultees and contractors.
- A contract database lists all the contracts and keeps track of tasks through to completion.

Structure
CAMS V5 is being developed in Microsoft's Visual Basic .NET and links to SQL Server, Microsoft Access or other database systems, and ArcView or MapInfo GIS.
The system allows users to display/move/resize multiple windows simultaneously. The spatial data is contained in a map window whilst, text data relating to routes, infrastructure, surfaces and maintenance may be displayed, according to user preference, in form, grid or tree formats. The map window provides complete functionality for adding and editing graphics representing routes, surfaces, infrastructure, enquiries and maintenance on an Ordnance Survey base map.
The system allows visualization and analysis of the paths, promoted routes, infrastructure, reported problems and maintenance tasks. Gazetteers, map templates and an image handling module provide all the tools needed to handle the map data quickly and effectively.
The contents of the map and text windows are live linked and navigation may be carried out using either text or spatial data. It is possible to make and save selections of routes - either to make global data changes or to synthesize the inventory of a promoted route.
Data may be stored and manipulated either as Whole Routes or as Whole Routes and BS7666 links. |
