Digitising and Data Processing
  • Digitising

We are very experienced at digitising definitive maps, statements and other countryside data. Please contact our data capture manager Colin Bertram for further information or a quotation.

  • BS7666 conversion

The British Standard for rights of way data requires that map and text data is based on structured ‘links’ and ‘whole routes’. We have developed automated routines that allow us to quickly and efficiently convert your existing map and text data into a BS7666 format. We have converted many authority datasets and often can do this for £500 or less for entire PROW networks. Contact James Hargreave of our CAMS team for further information.

  • Path gradient accessibility analysis

A sensible approach to the objective of increasing the accessibility of trails and path networks is to conduct an initial audit of the entire path resource to identify those paths that may be sufficiently level to be usable by mobility restricted persons, or that may be suitable paths for works to increase their accessibility. This can be important information to inform your Rights Of Way Improvement Plans. Using advanced GIS methods in conjunction with a digital terrain data, we are able to produce gradient maps for a single trail or an entire path network. We have invested in automating this process and can normally provide this service extremely cost effectively. For an example of a gradient map, contact Jon Young.

Rights of Way Improvement Plans

Independently and with associate consultants we have provided support and consultancy services to many local authorities in the scoping and preparation of  rights of way improvement plans. We firmly believe that the development of an improvement plan is something that needs to be undertaken ‘in-house’, but that authorities can make effective use of consultants for assisting in the development of their planning approach and also for the delivery of  specific research needed to inform the plan. Please contact Jon Young for details.

Web Mapping Services

If you have GIS based rights of way and access data you are only a short step away from being able to place this in the public domain using interactive web mapping services. We can assist you in this task either by providing and configuring appropriate web mapping software, or we can offer a lower cost solution making use of our own web mapping servers and software located close to the Internet backbone in London. Contact Tony Pettitt for further information.

GIS Sales and Training
As MapInfo and ESRI partners we are able to supply support and provide training in the use of GIS. We have particular experience in providing GIS training for rights of way officers. Please contact Carol Bateman our training manager.

Walking Tourism
With associate consultants The Tourism Company we are able to work with authority staff, partners and stakeholders on the development of practical and clear sighted strategies for the development of walking tourism. Potentially an important component or outcome of a Rights Of Way Improvement Plan. Please contact Jon Young for further information.
