Michael holds an MA in Philosophy from the University of Glasgow, an MPhil in Computer Animation from the Glasgow School of Art, and an MSt and DPhil in Archaeology from Oxford.
He worked briefly as an archaeological surveyor, then joined the Bodleian Libraries as Deputy Map Librarian and Geospatial Data Specialist in 2011. His main role there was to support staff and students across all of Oxford's subject areas in cartography and spatial analysis. In 2019, he left to pursue freelance cartography, working in both academic and trade publication. Michael joined Idox in October 2025.
Outside of work, he enjoys camping, gardening, and photography.
